Two Schools, One Vision: Taking a Stand Against Domestic Violence

4th November 2024

We are pleased to share a groundbreaking initiative highlighting the power of collaboration and the commitment of our schools to create positive change in our community. St Mary's College and Toowoomba Grammar School have come together with a shared goal: to advocate against domestic violence and make our community a safer, more respectful place.

Did you know that 1 in 4 women over the age of 15 have experienced domestic violence or coercive control? This shocking statistic is a call to action for all of us. It is an unacceptable reality that we must address—not only in our city but also on our campuses and within our community as a whole.

In response to this pressing issue, we are proud to introduce the Marys-Grammar Domestic Violence Committee (MGDVC). This student-led initiative empowers young men to challenge disrespectful language and behaviour. This committee is dedicated to raising awareness and fostering conversations around healthy relationships, advocacy, and respect.

We believe that the youth of today are the leaders of tomorrow. By providing a platform for students to engage in meaningful dialogue and take action, we can collectively combat the attitudes and behaviours that perpetuate domestic violence.

The collaboration between St Mary's College and Toowoomba Grammar School represents a united front in this fight. Together, we pledge to challenge societal norms and work towards ending domestic violence in all forms. Change starts with us, and it’s time for each of us to take a stand.

Let’s harness our strengths and work towards a brighter future where everyone can feel safe and valued. Together, we are stronger, and together, we can make a difference.
