Celebrating the Graduating Class of 2024 at St Mary’s College

12th November 2024

Today marked a significant milestone in the lives of our students at St Mary’s College as we gathered for a heartfelt final assembly to honor the graduating Year 12 class of 2024. Emotions ran high as we celebrated the achievements, memories, and friendships forged during their time at our school.

As part of the celebration, the school community formed a guard of honour, a fitting tribute to wish the Year 12 boys well as they embark on this new chapter of their lives. It was a moment filled with pride, reflection, and, most importantly, a celebration of brotherhood.

The day’s events were beautifully encapsulated in a touching poem delivered by Charlie Barnes, the 2025 College Captain. Titled “Always a Brother,” Charlie's words resonated deeply, reminding us all of the bonds created at St Mary’s and the wisdom gained along the way. Here’s a glimpse of the poem’s heartfelt message:

Always a Brother
The time has come, it’s finally here
To farewell our brothers in their graduating year.
It was here you grew from boys to men,
Classmates and teammates soon became friends.

Charlie emphasized the importance of gratitude—gratitude for learning, for teachers who guided them, and for the friendships that will last a lifetime. His lines reminded everyone to cherish the memories of their fellow classmates and mentors who have shaped their journey.

As the poem continued, it spoke of the path ahead, filled with adventure and opportunity, and encouraged the graduates to carry the lessons learned at St Mary’s with them into the future. The legacy of “once a brother, always a brother” was reinforced, highlighting every student's enduring connection, regardless of where life takes them.

Today was a celebration of individual accomplishments and the spirit of camaraderie that defines our community at St Mary’s College. We wish the Class of 2024 all the best in their future endeavours, and we are excited to see how they will strive for excellence as they take on new challenges.

Congratulations, Year 12! You will always have a home here at St Mary’s, and a part of you will always remain within these blue, white, and blue walls. Conanti Corona! Go strive for that crown!
