Tom Gorman played Rugby Union at St Mary's College. At 16, he was selected to play against an army side–that was the first of many internationals he was to play. In 1920, he was selected to captain a Rugby League Kangaroo Tour of England. Gorman played 10 representative games for Australia, and 36 games for Queensland. Gorman was described as a glorious player, with an unselfish spirit.
Old Boy, Johnathan Thurston was an Australian, Queensland State of Origin and Indigenous All Stars representative. He is a twice NRL Premiership winner and played36 consecutive State of Origin games. In 2015, he became the first ever four time Dally M Medallist for the NRL season's best player, and later that year became the first ever three-time winner of the Golden Boot Award for the world's best player.
Noel McGrowdie was born in 1920 and attended St Mary's College. His father, Charles, was a jockey-turned-racehorse trainer. McGrowdie won the Doomben Cup, Brisbane Cup and Stradbroke Handicap in Brisbane. In Sydney, he won the Epsom Handicap, Metropolitan, Sydney Cup and Doncaster Handicap. In Melbourne, he won the Oakleigh Plate, Newmarket Handicap and most notably the Melbourne Cup.
