Year 5 Camp

On Wednesday 6th February a group of excited boys set out for their first St Mary’s Camp which was held at the James Byrne Centre.  This was an overnight camp and for some, it was their first time away from family.

The two days were filled with activities and games to help the boys make new friends and learn a little more about one another. Some of these games involved the boys in group activities where they had to repeat names and information about other students.

The group enjoyed playing on the Slip and Slide and very vigorous and competitive games of “balloon hop” as well as cricket and handball in their free time.  Great enthusiasm was shown when organising themselves into tribes, using face paint and war cries, to compete in group activities.

On Thursday, Jarred and Jacob, our School Captains, visited. They spoke to the boys and answered many of their questions about St Mary’s before helping to serve them at lunch. The Year 5 boys enjoyed their visit very much.

The students were supervised by Mr Steer, Mrs Howden, Mrs Goodall and Mrs McCarthy.

After an enjoyable two days the boys returned to school pleased to be able to say they now have many new friends.
