ST MARY’S COLLEGE ASSUMPTION MASS & ACADEMIC AWARDS

ST MARY’S COLLEGE ASSUMPTION MASS & ACADEMIC AWARDS

On the 15th August, St Mary’s College will celebrate a Mass in honour of its name, Mary, the Mother of God. This will be undertaken on the Feast of the Assumption, one of two Holy Days of Obligation in the Church’s calendar year (the other being Christmas Day). The Feast of the Assumption honours Mary, the Mother of God in her heavenly state.

St Mary’s College is named so, by the Christian Brothers who founded the College in 1899 and under whose banner we remain associated with today. The Christian Brothers had a great devotion and prayed each day with the students to Mary, asking her to ask her son (Jesus) to hear our prayers. The idea being that her son would never refuse the deepest desires of his Mother. So, we gather as a College Family on Thursday, 15th August at 8:45am in the Clive Berghofer Arena to celebrate this feast day.

At the conclusion of the Mass, we will recognise our Academic Award winners for Semester One 2013. These are the boys who received Gold, Silver or Bronze Certificates for their academic achievements so far this year. We invite all parents and family members of the College to join us for this celebration. This will be followed by a morning tea.
