First Cricket

The first cricket team started the season well with a convincing win over Harristown SHS last week at Captain Cook oval. St Mary’s fielded first and after a slow start, the bowlers were able to get their line and length right to bowl Harristown out for 69 runs.

Best bowlers for St Mary’s were Jaryd Gordon with the impressive figures of 4-2 from 2 overs. Matt Hart also bowled well and finished the day with 3-13 from 4 overs. The other bowlers could learn a lot from these two on getting the ball in the right areas and not trying to bowl too fast at the expense of accuracy.

In reply to Harristown’s innings, St Mary’s were 1-70 after 11 overs.  Connor Lanigan was the best batter finishing with 39 not out. Connor played some good shots in his innings with a 6 over mid-wicket a highlight. Matt Hart was 18 not out and to pass Harristown’s innings with only 1 wicket down was a great effort.

Despite the convincing win, the team will need to improve in bowling the ball in the right areas and also ground fielding. Sundries was the second highest scorer in the Harristown’s innings which is never a good thing.

Congratulations must go to the Second XI who also recorded a win against Toowoomba SHS. Highest run scorer was Ryan Lucht and Josh Bidgood was the pick of the bowlers.
