Edmund Rice Day 2017

Edmund Rice Day 2017

On Friday, 5th May, St Mary’s College will celebrate its foundation and charism. Edmund Rice (1762-1844) is the founder of the Christian Brothers in Ireland. St Mary’s College was founded by the Christian Brothers in 1899, who ran the College until 1998. St Mary’s College is a proud Edmund Rice Associate School, continuing its links and vision based on the ideals of its founder. The Edmund Rice Charter upon which the College undertakes its education for the boys has four touchstones which include: providing a Liberating Education, ensuring an education based on a Gospel Spirituality, ensuring an Inclusive Community and promoting Justice and Solidarity for all. The day will begin with a Eucharistic celebration at St Patrick’s Cathedral which all members of the College family are most welcome to attend. This is a chance for our College to reflect upon the past traditions and history, our charism and foundations and to look forward with vigour and sense of purpose in our future. The day will then continue with celebrations and activities at the College.

The College takes this opportunity to welcome back two Brothers to the College: Br Tim Scott and Br Kevin Dwyer to celebrate with us.
