All I Want

As we move to the 5th week of Lent we continue to reflect on our lives, pondering on how we can be better people. In Sunday’s reading from St Paul, in his letter to the Philippians (3:8-14), he states that ‘all I want is to know Christ’. As we strive to be better Christians, better people, more prayerful, merciful and respecting the dignity of all, may we come to know the wonders of Christ more intimately. With this theme, I share this story:

7 Wonders of the World
A group of students were asked to list what they thought were the present “Seven Wonders of the World”.
Though there were some disagreements, the following received the most votes:
• Egypt’s Great Pyramids
• Empire State Building
• Taj Mahal
• St Peter’s Basilica
• Grand Canyon
• China’s Great Wall
• Panama Canal

While gathering the votes, the teacher noted that one student had not finished her paper yet. So she asked the girl if she was having trouble with her list. The girl replied “Yes, a little. I couldn’t quite make up my mind because there are so many”.
The teacher said, “Well, tell us what you have, and maybe we can help”. The girl hesitated, then read, “I think the ‘Seven Wonders of the World’ are:
• To See
• To Hear
• To Touch
• To Taste
• To Feel
• To Laugh
• To Love

God of the Journey, may all members of the St Mary's College family come to know you more intimately each day – inspired to ponder and reflect during this Lenten season.
